About the
Performance
I've
shared this performance hundreds of times in as many different
venues, from intimate college theaters to community libraries,
from schools to civic groups. Always the response surpasses
expectations, and always I learn something more about Leonardo.
This is a great story.
As
the audience arrives, I greet them as myself, sharing a
bit of
background on what is known about Leonardo's life. Music
is playing. Authentic props and set pieces create an elegant
backdrop. Little by little, with the audience's permission
and the addition of a few costume elements, we meet the
Maestro himself. Leonardo immediately challenges his audience
to commit to memory his motto, "Ostinato Rigore,"
Italian for persistent rigor. An engaging and inquisitive
man, Leonardo tells the story of his life, his theories
and observations leaping in free association from one area
of knowledge to another, like a needle pulling a silver
thread. Following the performance I step out of character
to facilitate an open conversation with the audience exchanging
additional stories and insights.
